At noon on Monday, June 12th the Kirkland Congregational United Church of Christ bell chimed 49 times to observe the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting last year in Orlando, Fl. Each chime signified those who died in the shooting. A few folks gathered on the front patio of the church for prayer, a reading of the names of the 49 people who were killed in this attack on the LGBTQ community in Orlando. The church joined with members of the Greater Kirkland Ecumenical Parish and churches across the nation to publicly remember the victims of this crime and to publicly support members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community.
